Virtual Classroom Requirements
« Return to Open Enrollment - Virtual Overview Hardware
InstallationIf you already have a recent Linux distribution installed, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSe Enterprise Linux, openSuSe, CentOS, Fedora, Debian, or Ubuntu you can use it for the class, but beware that we can't be responsible if your system winds up getting damaged. This warning is particularly important for classes in Kernel Internals and Device Drivers, where you will be compiling and installing kernels and kernel modules. Such operating system damage is rare, but does happen. Installation on a fresh system or at least a fresh partition is preferred, and we can offer suggestions and assistance in advance of class in how to do this. The distribution chosen can be 64-bit or 32-bit; 64-bit is the preferred default. It is also possible to preform all classes using virtualized machines, in which case memory and processor requirements may be more robust. If virtualization is used, it is your responsibility to have a working environment and to manage installation etc. ConnectivityYou will need a reliable broadband connection, capable of handling a minimum of 100 kB download speed. You will also need a dedicated telephone line available to join the class. Virtual Classroom SoftwareWe will supply all software needed to join the session as well as the instructions for how to use it. |
